From a Windows XP Computer:
Step # 1: Add your Windows XP computer to the MTA workgroup and logon with your MTA username and password.
To create an account:
You must have an account on your computer which has the same username and password as your MTA account.
Right-click on the My Computer icon on the desktop and select Manage.
Under System Tools, click the + sign beside Local Users and Groups and right-click on the Users folder and select New User...
Once the account exists, click the Start button and select Shutdown -> Log Off. This will log you off Windows and display a "Logon to Windows" screen.
You should now be able to log on to your computer with the new account with the same username & password as your MTA account.
To join the MTA workgroup:
Right-click on the My Computer icon on the desktop and select Properties.
Select the Network Identification tab and click the Properties button.
Select the Workgroup button (not Domain) and enter: MTA.
Click OK to save.
Click OK to exit.
You will probably be required to re-boot.
You will now be able to add a network printer. Incidentally, you will now be able to access MTA file shares by using the Map Network Drive feature (i.e. without having to use Connect As...)
Step # 2: Add the MTA Network Printer on your Windows computer.
- Click the Start button and select Settings -> Printers.
- Double-click on the Add Printer icon.
- Click Next.
- Check Network Printer then click Next.
- In the Name: field of the Locate Your Printer dialog box, enter the printer share name in the form of \\Server\printer (e.g. \\Labprint\LIBDC) and click Next. You may be asked if you want this printer to be your default printer. Pick Yes or No and then click Finish.
You should now be able to print this printer.
