Students in Dunn lab.

Computing Services does in fact have equipment that can be used for video conferencing.

There is a meeting room in the Computing Services building, G-02 Bennett, which is equipped with full audio conferencing and video conferencing equipment and software, including a PC, two large plasma displays, associated audio equipment and a high-quality two-microphone ClearOne Speaker Phone system for audio conferencing. The room seats about 12-14 people around a rectangular table setup but the layout can be changed to suit individual needs.

G-02 Bennett Building is equipped to do:

  1. Standard IP based H.323 protocol video conferencing (using Polycom PVX software).
  2. Multi-point IP based video conferencing eg. round-table type discussion groups using Access Grid.
  3. Skype Audio and Video sessions.

PLEASE NOTE: We do not have ISDN protocol capability.

1. G-02 Bennett Building is classed as a university meeting room and must be booked ahead of time through Facilities Management BOOKIT staff (bookit@mta.ca, 364-2251). G-02 Bennett Building should be booked well in advance of the date you require the room because it is heavily used; the more in advance that you request a booking, the better your chances of getting the room for the required date/time.

2. Technical Support is available for setting up audio/video conferences, Skype sessions etc. but this too must be booked using the Computing Services Audio-Visual Services web-based "AV Booking Request" form located on the CSD web site. Once your room booking is confirmed and if you will be requiring a video conference or Skype setup then you will have to submit the AV Booking Request Form from our Computing Services website located at the following URL: http://csd.mta.ca/forms/avbookingrequest.html

3. For video conference and Skype sessions, Computing Services asks that you submit your AV Booking Request Form well in advance ( at least one week and preferably two weeks). This is so we can set up a test session with the party at the other end well before the actual session/interview to make sure that the connection will work smoothly and iron out any glitches which might arise. For example, a full video conference generally requires contact with a technical staff member on the other end as well as the actual party participating in the video conference session. To that end, when you submit your AV Booking Request Form the above contact information should be known and included in the booking details. Skype sessions are a bit more straightforward in that the parties at each end only need to know the respective Skype usernames.
